Amazing Journey

On July 18th, 2009, twelve teams of two participated in the Amazing Journey to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House BC. The teams started their journey at Granville Island where they had to shop for unusual items. They were then off and running to their next stop for a different task to complete. They we selling loaves of Cobb’s bread in the street, mixing a specified drink at George Lounge Ltd, completing a pre-determined hair style at Blo-Dry-Bar, after completing the last task in the downtown area the final task brought them to Ronald McDonald House where they competed in an obstacle course. Once at Ronald McDonald House BC the teams, volunteers, organizers and neighbors were greeted by three McDonald’s Mascots and enjoyed a neighborhood block party barbeque.

Due to the huge success of this event the plan is in place for another Amazing Journey.  Come join us in 2010 for another Amazing Journey. Watch our website for details or email infor@rmhbc.ca if you would like to take part in this event.

Vancouver Island Golf

Ronald McDonald House BC Golf Tournament

A beautiful warm sunny day greeted our golfers on August 17, 2009 as they took part in our 17th Annual Vancouver Island Golf Tournament presented by RLC Enterprize Ltd. at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf & Resort & Spa located near Victoria, B.C. to help raise money to support Ronald McDonald House BC.

The golfers were welcomed by Ronald McDonald and participated in many fun activities during the day, including Hockey Golf by the Vancouver Island’s own Salmon Kings Hockey Team, Hole in one prizes for a chance to win a 2010 Mercedes by Three Point Motors or $ 5,000 Cash from Investors Group. Let's Bus It was serving up Mojita's, McDonalds was sampling their new salads, and Payworks was barbequing up hotdogs.

The awards banquet with 3 huge silent auction tables and a scrumptious buffet was enjoyed by our golfers and dinner guests. The highlight of the evening was listening to our guest speaker Emma Irwin, and her two daughters, Daisy and Molly from Sooke, BC sharing about their experience at Ronald McDonald House BC. Emma bravely shared the emotional journey a family undergoes when dealing with a sick child while away from home, family, and friends and the role Ronald McDonald House BC filled during this time as their home-away-from-home. Her moving speech emphasized how families from Vancouver Island benefit from Ronald McDonald House BC and the need to host events like this golf tournament to raise much needed funds to continue support the many families from Vancouver Island who call the Ronald McDonald House BC home for a period in their lives.

This event was a great success and we are looking forward to our 18th Annual Vancouver Island Golf Tournament next year.
